Who picks up donations in Austin

We may not have a featured partner in Austin that can guarantee a pickup, but we have a network of nonprofits we can ask. Your request goes to every one of them within 15 miles of your address: thrift stores, furniture banks, shelters and other charities that run their own trucks.

It’s first come, first served. Depending on what you’re giving and how full their routes are, you might hear from two or three organizations or from none. Whoever can use your items contacts you directly, usually within 48 hours. If nobody has reached out by then, no nonprofit took the request.

Priority Pickup. Check the Priority Pickup box on the same form and a provider will contact you to quote a fee. It’s the right choice when you need a firm date, have items nonprofits won’t take, or are clearing out a whole house. You can request both at once and take whichever offer works.

What’s different about a pickup in Austin

Put these details in your request. Nonprofits say yes more often when they know what they’re walking into.

  • UT move-out. Late May and the end of July are the busiest weeks in West Campus and Riverside. Request early or pick a date outside those weeks.
  • Heat. Summer highs regularly pass 100 degrees. Ask for a morning pickup and keep sofas and mattresses inside.
  • Hill Country driveways. Homes west of MoPac and along Lake Austin can have long, steep driveways. Tell us if a truck can’t get close to the house.

Neighborhoods and suburbs we serve

We route requests from downtown, East Austin, South Congress, Bouldin Creek, Zilker, Travis Heights, Hyde Park, North Loop, Mueller, Crestview, the Domain, Circle C and Del Valle, plus West Lake Hills, Round Rock, Pflugerville, Cedar Park, Leander, Kyle and Buda. Which nonprofits get yours depends on your zip code and what you’re donating; the form checks coverage when you enter it.

Donating furniture in Austin

Furniture is the most requested pickup. Sofas, dressers, dining sets and bed frames in clean, intact condition are what nonprofits want; mattresses and damaged upholstery usually aren’t. See what furniture qualifies for free pickup before you submit. If your piece doesn’t qualify, Priority Pickup takes it for a fee. If you were hoping Goodwill or the Salvation Army would come, see whether Goodwill picks up furniture and how Salvation Army pickup works.

What partners in Austin, TX pick up

Nonprofit partners pick up for free when they can resell what they collect; that’s what covers the truck and the crew. Each partner sets its own list, so you’ll confirm specifics once you’re matched, but the pattern is consistent across our network.

Donating clothing in Austin, TX

Most pickup partners won’t send a truck for clothing alone. They usually take bags of clothes when they’re already coming for a couch, dresser or other larger item, so list your clothing on the same request. If clothing is all you have, our clothing donation pickup guide covers drop-off options, donation bins and the programs that take clothes on their own.

Donation pickup in Austin, TX: frequently asked questions

Yes, when a nonprofit partner serving your zip code accepts your items. They pick up at no charge because they resell what they collect. If no nonprofit can take your items, or you choose Priority Pickup, a local hauler charges a fee and tells you the amount before you commit.

No. We send your request to the nonprofits that serve your area, and each one decides based on condition, resale demand and its schedule. Whoever can take your items contacts you directly, usually within 48 hours. If nobody reaches out by then, no nonprofit took the request. In most areas you can also add Priority Pickup on the same form, and a provider will contact you with a fee-based quote.

Free nonprofit pickups are scheduled around each partner’s routes, so plan on a few days to a couple of weeks once a partner accepts. Priority Pickup providers can often come within one to two days.

That depends on your provider, the weather and where the items are. Many partners will take items from a garage or porch if you arrange it with them in advance. Confirm when they contact you.

Furniture is our most requested pickup. Sofas, dressers, tables and bed frames in clean, intact condition are welcome with most partners. Mattresses and damaged pieces usually aren’t. Our furniture pickup guide has the full list.

Many areas have limited or no pickup from the big national charities. That’s what this network is for: independent nonprofit thrift stores, rescue missions and community organizations that run their own trucks. See our guides on Goodwill furniture pickup and Salvation Army donation pickup for the details.
