Who picks up donations in Hollywood

Volunteer Assistance to the Vulnerable (VAV) is the partner for free pickups. VAV is a Broward County nonprofit offering retirement and life coaching to marginalized women nearing retirement age. Donations in good condition fund that work, from Hollywood up through Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach. They pick up at no charge when your items qualify, because what they collect is resold to fund their work.

Priority Pickup. If VAV can’t take your items, choose Priority Pickup on the form and we’ll pair you with a local hauler who quotes a fee up front.

What’s different about a pickup in Hollywood

Tell us these up front and we match you with a partner that can handle it:

  • Condo rules. Beachside buildings often require elevator reservations and a certificate of insurance; give the building name.
  • Gated communities. Add the gate code or guardhouse instructions.
  • Hurricane season. June through November, storms reschedule routes; give a range of dates.

What partners in Hollywood, FL pick up

Nonprofit partners pick up for free when they can resell what they collect; that’s what covers the truck and the crew. Each partner sets its own list, so you’ll confirm specifics once you’re matched, but the pattern is consistent across our network.

Usually accepted

  • Sofas, chairs, tables, dressers and bed frames in clean, intact condition
  • Working small appliances and electronics
  • Clothing, shoes and accessories in bags or boxes, usually alongside a larger item like furniture
  • Kitchenware, home decor, books and toys

Usually not accepted for free pickup

  • Mattresses and box springs
  • Furniture with rips, stains, pet damage or missing parts
  • Tube TVs, console TVs and older electronics
  • Single small items on their own (bundle them with a larger donation)

Have furniture? See our guide to free furniture donation pickup for what qualifies and what to do if it doesn’t. Items that don’t qualify can still go out through a fee-based Priority Pickup provider on the same form.

Donating clothing in Hollywood, FL

Most pickup partners won’t send a truck for clothing alone. They usually take bags of clothes when they’re already coming for a couch, dresser or other larger item, so list your clothing on the same request. If clothing is all you have, our clothing donation pickup guide covers drop-off options, donation bins and the programs that take clothes on their own.

Donation pickup in Hollywood, FL: frequently asked questions

Yes, when a nonprofit partner serving your zip code accepts your items. They pick up at no charge because they resell what they collect. If no nonprofit can take your items, or you choose Priority Pickup, a local hauler charges a fee and tells you the amount before you commit.

No. We send your request to the nonprofits that serve your area, and each one decides based on condition, resale demand and its schedule. Whoever can take your items contacts you directly, usually within 48 hours. If nobody reaches out by then, no nonprofit took the request. In most areas you can also add Priority Pickup on the same form, and a provider will contact you with a fee-based quote.

Free nonprofit pickups are scheduled around each partner’s routes, so plan on a few days to a couple of weeks once a partner accepts. Priority Pickup providers can often come within one to two days.

That depends on your provider, the weather and where the items are. Many partners will take items from a garage or porch if you arrange it with them in advance. Confirm when they contact you.

Furniture is our most requested pickup. Sofas, dressers, tables and bed frames in clean, intact condition are welcome with most partners. Mattresses and damaged pieces usually aren’t. Our furniture pickup guide has the full list.

Many areas have limited or no pickup from the big national charities. That’s what this network is for: independent nonprofit thrift stores, rescue missions and community organizations that run their own trucks. See our guides on Goodwill furniture pickup and Salvation Army donation pickup for the details.
