Does Habitat for Humanity Pick Up Furniture?

Usually, yes. Most Habitat ReStores pick up furniture for free, but every store sets its own rules.

Habitat for Humanity says most of its ReStores offer pickup of furniture donations and other large items such as appliances and building materials, and that many do it at no charge. Habitat is a federation of local affiliates, though, and each ReStore decides its own service area, accepted items and schedule. The store 20 miles away may run a truck three days a week while the one nearest you has none.

If your ReStore cannot come, enter your zip code and we send your request to the other nonprofit partners that pick up in your area. The pickup is free when a partner accepts your items.

How ReStore pickup works

Habitat’s own guidance is to find the ReStore nearest you, tell it what you have, and settle on pickup or drop-off from there. In practice it goes like this:

Policies differ from store to store. Furniture, appliances and building materials are what the ReStores in our network come for, and the lists above match what they tell donors to expect.

Three Habitat ReStores pick up through PickUpMyDonation today, and requests from their zip codes route to them automatically:

Elsewhere, our form reaches the local thrift stores and ministries that run furniture trucks in your zip code.

If Habitat cannot pick up

Enter your zip code, describe what you have, and we send the request to the nonprofit partners who may be able to pick it up. Each partner decides based on condition, demand and its route, so a match is not guaranteed. If no nonprofit can take your items, Priority Pickup pairs you with a local hauler who quotes a fee up front. Frequently asked questions

Almost never. Mattresses and box springs are the most common item ReStores decline. If yours is clean and undamaged, enter your zip code; some local partners in our network accept them.

Habitat says many ReStores offer free pickup of large items. A store may handle long distances or small loads differently, so ask when you book.

It varies by store. A week ahead is usually enough outside of spring and moving season, when routes fill faster.
